Privacy Policy of The 88th Day
Last Updated: 1 October 2026The 88th Day runs the88thday.com and The 88th Day app for iOS and Android. We help people on an Australian Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417 or 462) find regional work and somewhere to stay, and track the specified work they need for their next visa. We also run a directory of regional businesses, and tools for employers and accommodation hosts to manage their listings.
The 88th Day is a business name of James Robert Knowles (ABN 17 944 507 152), based in Adelaide, South Australia. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we share it with and the choices you have. It applies to the website, the app and our emails. When we say "we" or "us", we mean The 88th Day.
What we collect
- Your account: your name, email address and password. We store your password in a form that can't be read back. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from them.
- Your profile (optional): photo, date of birth, nationality, phone number, visa type and year, and the work, hours and pay you are looking for.
- Your work records (optional): the employers you work for, their ABN and location, your dates, hours, pay and industry, and any payslips you upload.
- Job applications: the education, experience and skills you include when you apply for a job.
- Location: the places and postcodes you search for. In the app, your device's location too, but only while you're using the app and only if you allow it, so we can show work and eligibility near you.
- Payments: your plan and subscription status. Card payments on the website are handled by Stripe, and app purchases by Apple or Google. We never see or store your full card number.
- Messages: emails you send our support team, your conversations with our AI assistant, and messages you send employers or hosts in the app.
- Usage and device information: your IP address, browser or device type, the pages and screens you use, your device's notification token, and crash and performance reports.
Businesses in our directory: we list regional businesses using publicly available information, such as the business name, address and published contact details. We use automated tools, including AI, to find and check these details. We may email a business about its listing. Every one of those emails has an unsubscribe link, and a business can ask us to change or remove its listing at any time.
How we use it
- To run your account and the features you use, such as the 88 days calculator, eligibility checks, job search and applications.
- To read the payslips you upload and fill in your work records for you.
- To answer your questions and give you support.
- To send you emails about your account and subscription.
- To send you app notifications about your progress, new jobs and Premium.
- To show statistics on business listings. When you add work for a business, it counts towards figures such as how many backpackers have logged work there. We never show your name.
- To produce combined statistics, such as the number of work days logged in each region, which we may publish. These can't identify you.
- To understand how people use The 88th Day, fix problems and improve it.
- To measure how well our advertising works.
- To keep the service secure, prevent misuse and meet our legal obligations.

Our sign-in, sign-up and contact forms use Google reCAPTCHA to stop spam and abuse, and Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to it.
Where your information is stored
Your account, work records and uploaded files are stored in Australia, in Amazon Web Services data centres in Sydney.
The servers that run our website and app are in the United States, so your information passes through them. Some of the service providers listed above also store or process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States, and some of the people who work for us are based outside Australia. We take reasonable steps to make sure anyone who handles your information overseas protects it in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Cookies and tracking
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We use them to keep you signed in, to understand how the website is used and to measure our advertising.
Our website loads tracking tools from Google (Analytics and Ads), Meta and TikTok when you visit. These let those companies know you visited The 88th Day, so we can measure our ads and show them to people likely to find them useful. They may combine this with other information they hold about you, under their own privacy policies.
We also use PostHog on the website and in the app, and Firebase Analytics in the app, to understand how they are used. We don't record your screen or what you type. The app doesn't use Meta or TikTok tracking.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and manage ad personalisation in your Google, Meta and TikTok account settings and in your phone's privacy settings. If you block all cookies, you won't be able to stay signed in to the website.
Keeping it secure
Information travels to and from The 88th Day over an encrypted connection, and only people who need it to do their job can access it. No online service can be completely secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach is likely to cause you serious harm.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, work records, payslips, AI assistant conversations and application history straight away, as described on our Delete My Account page. The work you logged stops counting towards business statistics. Copies in our backups are deleted as those backups expire.
Support emails are kept until you ask us to delete them. Stripe, Apple and Google keep payment records for as long as the law requires. Combined statistics that can't identify you may be kept.
Your choices and rights
- See, update or delete most of your information yourself in your account settings.
- Delete your whole account at any time from the website or the app.
- Turn off app notifications in your phone's settings.
- Unsubscribe from any marketing email using the link in it.
- Ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or to correct it.

If you're in the UK or European Union
You also have rights under the UK and EU General Data Protection Regulation: to access, correct or delete your information, to get a copy to take to another service, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent you have given. We use your information to provide the service you signed up for, to meet our legal obligations, and for our legitimate interests in improving The 88th Day and measuring our advertising.
